Belief-Propagation for Weighted b-Matchings on Arbitrary Graphs and its Relation to Linear Programs with Integer Solutions

چکیده
We consider the general problem of finding the minimum weight b-matching on arbitrary graphs. We prove that, whenever the linear programming (LP) relaxation of the problem has no fractional solutions, then the belief propagation (BP) algorithm converges to the correct solution. We also show that when the LP relaxation has fractional solution then BP algorithm can be used to solve the LP. These results are notable in several regards: (1) It is one of a very small number of proofs showing correctness of BP without any constraint on the graph structure. (2) Instead of showing that BP leads to a PTAS, we give a finite bound for the number of iterations after which BP has converged to the exact solution. (3) Variants of the proof work for both synchronous and asynchronous BP; to the best of our knowledge, it is the first proof of convergence and correctness of an asynchronous BP algorithm for a combinatorial optimization problem. (4) It works for both ordinary b-matchings and the more difficult case of perfect b-matchings. (5) Together with the recent work of Sanghavi, Malioutov and Wilskly [41] they are the first complete proofs showing that tightness of LP implies correctness of BP.

Loop Calculus and Bootstrap-Belief Propagation for Perfect Matchings on Arbitrary Graphs
This manuscript discusses computation of the Partition Function (PF) and theMinimumWeight Perfect Matching (MWPM) on arbitrary, non-bipartite graphs. We present two novel problem formulations one for computing the PF of a Perfect Matching (PM) and one for finding MWPMs that build upon the inter-related Bethe Free Energy (BFE), Belief Propagation (BP), Loop Calculus (LC), Integer Linear Programm...
متن کاملWell-dispersed subsets of non-dominated solutions for MOMILP problem
This paper uses the weighted L$_1-$norm to propose an algorithm for finding a well-dispersed subset of non-dominated solutions of multiple objective mixed integer linear programming problem. When all variables are integer it finds the whole set of efficient solutions. In each iteration of the proposed method only a mixed integer linear programming problem is solved and its optimal solutions gen...
متن کاملNumerical Solution of Seismic Wave Propagation Equation in Uniform Soil on Bed Rock with Weighted Residual Method
To evaluate the earth seismic response due to earthquake effects, ground response analyses are used to predict ground surface motions for development of design response spectra, to compute dynamic stresses and strains for evaluation of liquefaction hazards, and to determine the earthquake induced forces that can lead to instability of earth and earth-retaining structures. Most of the analytical...
متن کاملRevisiting the in-the-middle algorithm and heuristic for integer programming and the max-sum problem
We consider a very simple algorithm to solve large scale 0-1 integer linear programs and a simple heuristic to encourage convergence to an integer solution which have been very successful in commercial applications. We find it useful to revisit its main ideas and establish its relation to several known algorithms, including the generalized iterative scaling algorithm. We discuss ways to relate ...
متن کاملPerfect Matchings in Edge-Transitive Graphs
We find recursive formulae for the number of perfect matchings in a graph G by splitting G into subgraphs H and Q. We use these formulas to count perfect matching of P hypercube Qn. We also apply our formulas to prove that the number of perfect matching in an edge-transitive graph is , where denotes the number of perfect matchings in G, is the graph constructed from by deleting edges with an en...
